The redesign of Salt-N-Pepa’s Very Necessary album is inspired by the bold juxtaposition of their iconic 90s energy with traditional American diner design. I was drawn to the visual language of diners and American traditionality, alongside the very important strides that Salt N Pepa made within the hip hop world. The contrast between the sleek, vintage diner aesthetic and Salt-N-Pepa’s fearless bold style creates an unexpected visual narrative. Through typography, color, and layout, I aimed to celebrate their influence while adding a twist of Americana. The result is a design that’s both familiar and unapologetically new.
